About Us
The idea for My-ikigai began when I saw my grandparents struggling with loneliness and a lack of purpose after relocating from their home of 20 years. The move separated them from their established social network, and the isolation only worsened during the pandemic.
I wanted to help them—and others like them—rediscover joy and connection in their daily lives.
Inspired by the Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones documentary, I learned how purpose and strong social bonds are key to living longer, healthier lives. In regions like Okinawa, Japan, the concept of ikigai, or “a reason to live,” empowers seniors to thrive. The National Library of Medicine reinforces this importance, stating, “both loneliness and social isolation contribute to greater risk of mortality within our population of older adults.” I wanted to address this for my grandparents and other seniors like them, helping them live long, fulfilling lives.
To better understand the need, I surveyed over 50 seniors in my community. Every single respondent expressed a strong desire for more opportunities for social interaction and meaningful activities. This insight inspired My-ikigai: a platform where seniors can connect with their community, engage in shared activities, and rediscover their sense of purpose.
Life is meant to be fulfilling—at every age.
